Revised Briefing added - Asulam vs Amidosulfuron

Briefing No. 14 (Asulam vs Amidosulfuron - Interim Findings) has been revised with a view to providing a clear picture of the concerns about the impact of amidosulfuron on non-target species and to present details of the trials that are in progress to quantify these concerns.

This information may be useful to the regulators when considering the application for an Emergency Authorisation for the use of asulam next year.  The BCG has suggested that while the concerns about amidosulfuron are unresolved, it would be irresponsible to promote the widespread use of this herbicide, even though it has approval for use on grassland.  It may be appropriate to use amidosulfuron in particular circumstances, where the potential negative impact on non-target species might not be a concern, for example on historic sites.

While the situation remains unresolved, the BCG would like to see approval granted to use of asulam for ground-based application where its safe use can be justified.
